Wildcats sign final player with addition of James HADFIELD as backup netminder to Chris DOUGLAS. HADFIELD played seven games last season for the Scimitars and is a GB U18 international. Coach ALDRIDGE said it has been a while since the team has had a netminder capable of challenging for the starting spot, and HADFIELD was good enough to do that. ALDRIDGE added, ‘ Our lineup is about done, and I like the look the way the team is looking.’

Sam BULLAS, the 19-year-old British forward who signed for the EIHL Braehead Clan in May is back with the Wildcats. BULLAS and Bison forward Shaun THOMPSON both joined the new Elite League side and have both been released without firing a shot. 17-year-old Steve CHALMERS, a local lad who has some experience in the Ontario Hockey Academy in Canada, has been recruited instead. Coach Bruce Richardson said, ‘ I think that it is extremely important to have a roster that includes local depth players.’

Meanwhile, British Wildcats’ D-man Andy FINN signs for Newcastle’s ENL side the Northern Stars, which just leaves Jason CASSELLS out in the cold.

Jozef KOHUT re-sings for the Wildcats. Coach Aldridge says he is a player that can change a game for you at any moment. Last season KOHUT was the highest assists scorer in the team and averaged over a point per game.

Although no longer strictly Wildcats’ news, you can’t help wanting to follow Aaron NELL’s progress with EIHL Coventry Blaze. In a local press article Coach Paul Thompson said, ‘Nell is a shooter, he can score goals and got a lot last year. Nell was a centreman in the EPL but I don’t see him doing that at this level yet. He shoots left and will play on the right. I like shooters playing on their off wing.’

On the prospect of playing with ex-NHL players Sean Selmer and Owen Fussey, NELL said, ‘Getting the chance to play with Sean and Owen will be a great opportunity, as will whoever I play with.’

Ex-Swindon junior Nick COMPTON (GBR), who played last season on the Phantoms’ blueline, returns to Swindon and signs for the Wildcats. As another D-man, the signing makes Andy FINN’s future with the Wildcats look even more uncertain.

With Coach Aldridge in Austria things still seem to be happening at the Wildcats. Russian forward Raimonds DANILICS signs for Montpellier in France and although the futures of Canadian forward Jason CASSELLS and British D-man Andy Finn are said to be undecided, a rumour kicking around for a few days says Slovakian Jozef KOHUT will re-sign.
